Mobilize with Minnesota 

The Twin Cities have long been a safe haven for immigrants and refugees, resettling almost 300,000 new immigrants since 2010. It was one of the few cities to resettle the large waves of Southeast Asian immigrants following the end of the Vietnam War, welcoming Hmong, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Laos, and later Karen, Somali, Nigerian, and Ethiopian immigrants.

Now, ICE is terrorizing these communities, dragging elders out into the street in freezing weather, conducting door to door raids, and committing murder in broad daylight. The landscape is intense.  Schools have moved to virtual learning, immigrant-owned restaurants are closed indefinitely, and neighbors are fearful for their safety.

But the people continue to resist the ICE takeover of their community. It’s up to us to support these efforts wherever we can. We’ve compiled a non-exhaustive list of campaigns, mutual aid funds, and resources to plug into so that you can Mobilize with Minnesota.

3. Organize locally to support efforts in your community
   No matter where you live, you can join or create an organization to defend immigrants in your area. Stay consistent to build long-term organized power even after the headlines change.
   
   If you don’t know where to start, gather a few trusted friends or talk to your neighbors about what you want to do, what skills you can share, and how you can contribute to your community. Simple things like getting groceries for neighbors who are afraid to step outside can make a huge impact.

4. Call your representative to shut down ICE funding

We have to act fast to ensure no more money is given to ICE in the 2026 budget. Call your representative to demand they stop funding ICE. These resources should be used to fund life-giving services like housing and healthcare, not detention, deportation, and death.

5. Demand corporate accountability 

ICE wouldn’t be possible without the businesses that help them operate. Companies like Palantir and Amazon provide the tech that ICE needs to expand their surveillance and streamline their operations. But we can pressure companies to end their complicity with ICE. Just recently, Avelo Airlines agreed to stop flying ICE’s deportation flights and Spotify chose not to renew ICE recruitment ads, weakening ICE’s infrastructure.

It’s beautiful to see ordinary community members work together to kick ICE out of Minnesota. Students are staging walk outs to oppose the ICE occupation and restaurants are cooking warm meals for protestors while neighbors are organizing to protect each other.
